U.S. Trials
The Krag was adopted in mid 1893 after wining trials held the previous year in New York. It was selected because its manual magazine cut off was seen as a desirable trait allowing for the rate of fire to mechanically reduced.
Another feature of the krag that was viewed as desirable was the magazine was that it was loaded by individual rounds instead of being fed by a clip or charger system.
